Our orchestra consists of students and young professionals from different countries. Besides rehearsals, we also offer stage/orchestra experience to conservatoire students, both on and in front of the orchestra!
What projects are planned?
The project which we are currently working on is our Winter concert! On December 7th, we will play classical music, including Bizet’s L’Arlesienne Suites #1 and #2 and Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Op. 71 and 71a.
Due to overwhelming success in 2024, we will play a second Pink Floyd Benefit Concert for War Child. This time, we will partner with the band ‘Absolutely Floyd’ for the concert’s 2025 edition.
We are also partnering with the Bataafs Symfonie Orkest for a Bollywood-themed concert in June 2025. Membership participating in this collaboration project will have the opportunity to play in Amare’s main concert hall!
The summer 2025 project is still unknown but, it will be our 20th anniversary so it is sure to be extra special!
As you can see, we have many exciting projects coming up! Members of Valerius are free to join all concerts, playing a diverse repertoire of music, collaborating with other music groups, and performing in beautiful, grand venues.
Who are we looking for?
Do you enjoy making music together with others and would you like to play in The Hague's most ambitious and sociable student orchestra? Valerius is always looking for motivated members. As a member of Valerius, you can participate in three unique and challenging projects every year, rounded off with beautiful concerts.
Due to increased interest, we do have auditions for wind players.
All enthusiastic musicians are welcome, but at the moment we are especially looking for:
strings (all types, especially violists)
brass players (all types)
oboe
bassoon
We are currently at capacity for clarinet players.
Membership Information
We hope that you would like to become a member of Valerius. Unfortunately, this is not without cost. We are a student association and we need your help to finance our projects to have a great experience while participating in our orchestra! After signing up, you would recieve an email from our recruitment officer and/or treasurer with more information.
The membership fee you would pay depends on if you are a young professional or a student. Students are defined as persons following a study at a higher education institution i.e. MBO, University of Applied Sciences, University, and PhD candidates. Young professionals are defined as graduates.
Option 1: Year Membership
This is the most popular type of Valerius membership! With option 1, you sign up to be a part of Valerius for one academic year, which means three projects. At the end of the year, your membership will be renewed unless you notify the board otherwise.
Student Year Membership: 135 Euros
Young Professionals Membership: 200 Euros
Option 2: Project Membership
It is also possible to just join Valerius for one project! If you like one specific concert that we have coming up, and want to play with us for that, you can purchase a one-project membership.
Project Membership: 85 Euros
Keep in mind that your membership will be renewed automatically and that you need to cancel your membership at least 4 weeks before July 31. For project members, the membership will automatically be cancelled at the end of the project. If you would like to stay on for another project or become a year member, please let us know.
